WORKSHOP 1 — Needs Identification

Description
Review workshop objectives, agenda, and
participant expectations • (9:00-9:20)
Clarify what will take place during the workshop
Warm-up activity with Hindi proverbs • (9:20-9:35) Participants will mingle among castes, trade group affiliation, family, and gender.  They will have a chance to introduce their partner to the group.
Rich picture activity, part 1 • (9:35 - 10:00)Aims to generate enthusiasm by having Dharavi leaders identify what makes them proud a
Bio break • (10:00 - 10:10)Bathroom, water, etc.
Rich picture activity, part 2 • (10:00 - 10:35)
Aims to identify an ideal vision of what Dharavi - or its community - would look like, post-development.  Draws out areas that need to be taken into consideration as "needs" during the process.  Ex) Families will be able to maintain their businesses and sources of livelihood.
Present on Dharavi • (10:35 - 11:00)Each group (women, men) will present on its part 1 and part 2 pictures - things that make them proud of Dharavi, and what their vision of a post-development Dharavi would look like.
Prepare cards for "Card & Chart) • (11:00 - 11:25)Each group will review the rich pictures, and write down each item they view as a "need" on a large note card.  
Bio break • (11:25 - 11:30)Bathroom, water, etc.
Card & Chart • (11:30 - 12:30)Organize main ideas from the "needs" brainstorming into categories.  If needs overlap from both rich pictures, group them together.
Lunch • (12:30 - 1:30)
Energizer • (1:30 - 1:40)Sing!  Take a volunteer from the group and have him/her teach the group a favorite song.




Closing • (X:XX - X:XX)Read Swami Vivekananda poem; ask for how it could be used for our task together as a working group.
